Windflow submits entry to Zayed Future Energy Prize

Windflow Technology Ltd has submitted an entry for the internationally prestigious Zayed Future Energy Prize.

This annual award celebrates achievements that reflect impact, innovation, long-term vision and leadership in renewable energy and sustainability. With a total prize award amount of US$4 million, the Zayed Future Energy Prize is an initiative of the leadership of the United Arab Emirates. It is managed by Masdar, the UAE government-owned clean energy company.

Windflow entered the Small and Medium Enterprise category because of its innovative technologies that form the core of its proven, highly differentiated wind turbine offerings. These include the load shedding two-bladed design with Teeter Control System™, the patented Torque Limiting Gearbox™ which enables a synchronous generator directly online, and the new Low Variable Speed™ which reduces blade sound levels and improves energy capture.

The impact of these technologies is clear: the Te Rere Hau wind farm in NZ is powered by Windflow wind turbines which have produced over 630 GWh of total energy generation, offsetting over 460 thousand tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions. As we grow our market globally, especially in developing markets, future Windflow turbines will continue this trend of reducing global carbon emissions.

The award also recognizes leadership in the areas of renewable energy and sustainability. For over a decade Windflow has been the leading manufacturer of wind turbines in New Zealand, and has helped to shape thought and policy on renewable energy by participating in numerous national and international organizations promoting wind energy.

Review and selection process for the Zayed Future Energy Prize continues through the end of 2015. The final awards ceremony will be held in January 2106 during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
